Leiden is a city and municipality in South Holland, The Netherlands.
For the celebration of the 400th anniversary of Rembrandts' birth, the city of Leiden, where the famous painter was born, has it's own local currency in 2006, called the Rembrandt.
This coin is only local currency with face values of 2, 1 and 1/2 Rembrandt, equivalent to 2 euro, 1 euro and 0,50 euro. The coin circulates in five different issues.
