Tanzania 50,000 shilingi 2014 - 50th anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution

New silver commemorative:

'50th anniversary of Zanzibar Revolution'



The Bank of Tanzania has issued a 50,000 shilingi commemorative coin to mark the 50th anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution (January 12th 1964). It is a 92.50 per cent silver proof coin that will not be used as legal tender. The coin has been issued in limited quantity, just 3,000 pieces.

The coin displays the portrait of Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume on its obverse side, encircled with the inscription "The First President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council", while on the reverse side it displays the Coat of Arms of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
