Bulgaria 2 leva 2012 - Dimcho Debelyanov

New collector's issue:

"125 Years since the Birth of Dimcho Debelyanov"

Dimcho Debelyanov was a Bulgarian poet and author whose death in the First World War cut off his promising literary career.

He was born on 28 March 1887 in Koprivshtitsa, Bulgaria. His family moved to Plovdiv in 1896, then to Sophia in 1904. He finished school in Sophia in 1906. Until 1912 he worked as junior clerk, freelance journalist, newspaper reporter, proof-reader, editor, translator, stenographer and so forth, often working two or three jobs at once. He joined Army in 1912 and participated in First Balkan War. Then worked in office from 1914 to 1916. He was called up again and sent to Front in Jan 1916. He was killed in action on 2 Oct 1916 while battling Irish troops between villages of Dolno and Gorno Karadjovo.

His first poems were published in autumn of 1906. Unknown at his death, his posthumous fame was considerable. His poetry is in many respects symbolist, and is distinguished by its technical innovation, its precise rendering of nebulous emotional states, and its remarkable musicality.

Lithuania 50 litas 2012 - Maironis

New silver collectors issue:

"150th Anniversary of Maironis' birth"

Maironis (born Jonas Maciulis) is one of the most famous Lithuanian romantic poets.

He is considered the poet of the Lithuanian national revival because of his patriotic poetry at the time of the formation of the national consciousness, part of an emotional movement that swept Eastern Europe in the late nineteenth century.

Maironis does not represent any strictly defined literary trend because such trends did not exist in Lithuanian literature at that time. His aesthetics developed from the romantic, classical atmosphere of the first part of the nineteenth century and were determined by the social conditions of Lithuania toward the end of that century.
